Alternative health care… is it for you?

As you are reading this, you’re either open to an alternative health care approach, or events in your life have bought you to at least consider what we have to offer. Firstly, we are grateful you are considering Chiropractic (we appreciate it is ‘out of the box’ from simply attending your GP surgery,) and secondly we would happily offer a free ‘Welcome Call’ to explain more in detail what to expect and answer any questions you may have pertinent to what we do.

Looking in the mirror for a healer…

The grounding principle in alternative health is that your body can overcome injury, illness and disease if it has the resources to do so. Our body naturally heals from injuries without any outside prompts and is largely successful. However accumulated stress (be it physical, emotional or chemical) coupled with lack of rest or resources causes the body to reduce its ability to adapt and bounce back. This is where natural health care works: to provide the resources to support your body process the stressors. This approach is therefore in support of the body’s natural processes rather than symptom management and diagnosis, which is the role of western medicine.

Human beings have been recovering from ailments long before we had doctors who medicate and manage us through the process. And although we are grateful times have moved forward and people are living longer and surviving diseases which used to end us, we implore our clients to interest themselves in why we are suffering, and make the lifestyle changes required to support the body heal as fully as possible.

Pain from out of the Blue

We all recognise that the choices we make impact our lives. However there are some unavoidable actions which we all must take which in turn, can build up to a level which starts to effect the body. We have all heard of someone leaning forward to pick up a piece of paper or an item of clothing only to find their back has “gone” leaving them in great pain and a long road ahead.

So is that that the human body cannot lean forward to pick up the lightest of things? No, it’s an accumulation or micro traumas leading to a functional break down. Whether it be sat for hours at the desk, or leaning down to pick up our children, it can even be compensation for an old injury. These small physical challenges can build up to being a big problem.

Indeed, our physical selfs can be effected by things you may not expect as well, have you ever noticed old injuries playing up after a alcohol heavy bbq? Or that back pain creeping in at times of high emotional stress? This is because our body’s and minds, our choices, are all of course one.

Understanding that every one system will effect the whole is key to embracing the holistic approach to health care.

Can I see a Chiropractor as well as someone else?

Many of our clients see other health professionals. We generally find there is no overlap or interreference between our care and other holistic or medicinal approaches. Please speak to us if you have any concerns as this rarely may not apply to you. We do respect and appreciate that multiple care modalities can leave one needing to rest, and therefore it is not generally advised to see us on the same day as someone else. We do have clients who are undergoing medical care for conditions, this is common practice for us but we urge you to speak to all parties involved, as a point to note we are trained to adapt our care when required (for example not lying on your front etc.)
